The Disney World Souvenirs We Didn’t Buy (And the Parenting Trick That Saved Us Money!)

Three kids, countless Disney gift shops, and one simple phrase that saved us from buying everything in sight.
If you’ve ever taken young kids to Walt Disney World, you know that the gift shops are practically attractions themselves.
Every ride seems to end in a store filled with toys, stuffed animals, princess dresses, and souvenirs your kids suddenly cannot live without.
On our most recent Disney World vacation, we found ourselves repeating the same phrase over and over again:
“Let’s take a picture so we remember it for later!”
And somehow, it worked!
By the end of our trip, my camera roll was filled with photos of toys, dolls, swords, and random souvenirs that our kids desperately wanted us to buy.
Did we buy them all? Absolutely not.
Now, we weren’t complete monsters. We did let each of our three kids pick out one or two special souvenirs to bring home. But for everything else, we had a simple solution: take a picture for later.
Here’s a look at some of the Disney World souvenirs that made it into our camera roll but never into our suitcase.
1. Gaston’s Archery Set

Apparently, no trip to Disney World is complete without considering a bow and arrow set inspired by Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.
This was one of the more ambitious souvenir requests of the trip.
Fortunately, a photograph was a perfectly acceptable alternative to bringing home an entire archery set.
Where to find it: Search Gaston merchandise at Disney Store.
The exact archery set hasn’t been confirmed as available online.
2. Knight Swords and Shields

Some kids want Mickey ears. Others want to leave Disney World prepared for medieval combat.
The sword and shield combination was a particularly convincing request because, naturally, we needed both.
We took the photo, admired the knightly transformation, and moved along.
Where to find it: Search swords and shields at Disney Store.
The exact sword and lion shield haven’t been confirmed online.
3. Viking Helmets, Swords, and Shields

The Viking merchandise was clearly a favorite.
And I have to admit, the helmet was pretty adorable.
But as much as we appreciated the full Viking ensemble, we weren’t quite ready to dedicate suitcase space to helmets, swords, and shields.
So we documented the moment instead.
Honestly, the photos might be a better souvenir anyway.
Where to find it: Search Viking merchandise at Disney Store.
These exact items may be exclusive to the Disney parks.
4. Hoptimist Figures

Not every souvenir request was Disney-themed.
These colorful little Hoptimist figures somehow made the wishlist, too.
They’re cute, cheerful, and designed to bounce, so I can understand the appeal.
But did we need to bring home two more little collectibles?
The camera roll says no.
Where to find them: Search Hoptimist at Disney Store.
Hoptimist is an independent brand, so you may have better luck finding these figures through the brand’s own retailers.
5. Disney Princess Snow White Doll

Of course, we couldn’t visit Disney World without discovering at least one princess doll that absolutely needed to come home with us.
This Snow White doll came with accessories, making it even more tempting.
And with other princess dolls displayed nearby, there were plenty of opportunities for the wishlist to grow.
We admired the dolls, took a photo, and added them to the growing collection of potential future birthday and holiday gifts.
Where to find it: Shop Disney Store for Snow White dolls.

6. Monsters, Inc. Figurine Set

A collection of familiar characters from Monsters, Inc. was another addition to the wishlist.
I can see why this one caught their attention. The set includes several characters, making it feel like an entire toy collection in one box.
But we already had plenty of toys waiting for us at home.
Another photo for later!
Where to find it: Search Monsters, Inc. figurines at Disney Store.
The exact figurine set hasn’t been confirmed as currently available online.
7. Frozen Once Upon a Story Playset

And finally, there was the Frozen Once Upon a Story playset.
This adorable little set features Elsa, Olaf, and accessories tucked into a portable carrying case.
I actually thought this was a pretty clever toy, especially for kids who love imaginative play.
But after all the other souvenir requests, this one joined the photo collection, too.

Our Disney World Souvenir Shopping Strategy
While we didn’t buy everything our kids asked for, we also didn’t want to spend the entire vacation saying no.
Disney World is special, and choosing a souvenir can be part of the fun.
We let each child pick out one or two things they really wanted. But when the requests kept coming, we offered to take pictures of the other toys so we could remember them for later.
And there were actually a few benefits to this approach:
It helped us avoid impulse purchases. We didn’t have to make a buying decision every time something caught their attention.
It gave the kids a way to remember what they liked. We could revisit the photos for birthdays or holidays.
It made shopping less stressful. Taking a picture became part of the experience instead of every request turning into a negotiation.
It saved suitcase space. Because three kids already come with enough stuff!
It gave us some hilarious vacation memories. Looking back at the collection of things they wanted is almost as entertaining as the trip itself.
Did We Ever Actually Look at the Pictures Again?
Well, not until I started putting together this post!
That’s probably the funniest part of the whole experience.
At the time, every single toy seemed incredibly important. But once we left the gift shop and moved on to the next Disney adventure, most of those must-have souvenirs were quickly forgotten.
And now we have a camera roll full of photos documenting all the things we didn’t buy.
My Advice for Shopping at Disney World With Young Kids
If you’re planning a Disney World vacation with little ones, try the photo trick!
Let your kids know they can choose a special souvenir or two, but that you can also take pictures of other things they love.
It won’t necessarily work every time, especially when they’re tired or overwhelmed, but it worked surprisingly well for us.
And as an added bonus, you’ll leave Disney World with some pretty entertaining photos.
Now I’m curious: Does anyone else use the “let’s take a picture for later” trick with their kids? Or do you have another strategy for surviving Disney World gift shops?
I’d love to hear what works for your family!
