What Disney Rider Switch is

Disney World's Rider Switch lets one adult ride while another adult stays with a child who is too short for a ride or too nervous to try it. When the first adult finishes, the two swap. The adult who waited gets to ride too, without standing in the full line a second time.

It is simple once you know how it works. The steps below walk through it.

How the swap works

Here is the general flow. Ask a Cast Member at the ride entrance for the current steps, because the details can change.

  1. Ask a Cast Member at the entrance whether the ride offers Rider Switch.

  2. The first adult rides while the second adult waits with the child.

  3. When the first adult is done, the two swap, and the second adult rides.

  4. Keep the child with the adult who is not riding, so nobody is separated.

Rider Switch is about making the day work for the whole family, not about skipping the fun. Plan who rides first, and talk through the swap with your kids before you get in line.

Which rides it helps with

Rider Switch is most useful on rides with a height requirement, or on rides with drops, darkness, or loud moments that can scare a young child. Those are often the rides where one parent ends up on the sidelines.

Not every ride offers Rider Switch, so ask at each entrance before you plan around it. A preschooler may love some rides and skip others, and that is normal.

Common Questions Answered

Can every ride take a Rider Switch? No. Not every ride offers one, so ask at the entrance before you plan your day around it.

Is Rider Switch only for little kids? No. It can help any group where one person is not ready to ride, or where one adult wants to stay with a child.

Do you need Lightning Lane to use Rider Switch? No, Rider Switch is a complimentary service and does not require a Lightning Lane. However, if you do choose to use Lightning Lane for Party 1, rules state that anyone in Party 2 riding via Lightning Lane must also have a valid Lightning Lane reservation for that ride (though a person riding in both groups does

not need two separate passes)
