Disney Chipmunk-o-sauraus

Chip and Dale’s dinosaur outfits were some of the most beloved and quirky character costumes ever seen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Here are some fun facts:

  • They were known as Chipmunk-o-Saurus - a playful pun combining “chipmunk” and “dinosaur.” Their bright green and purple dinosaur onesies fit perfectly with the wacky roadside carnival theme of DinoLand U.S.A.

  • They appeared as part of Donald’s Dino-Bash!, a celebration where Donald Duck proudly claimed he’d discovered dinosaurs. The entire area embraced a fun, intentionally over-the-top roadside attraction vibe.

  • They became one of the most photographed character meet-and-greets in Animal Kingdom. Many Disney fans considered them a “must-do” because the costumes were so unique compared to their classic appearances.

  • Their costumes were intentionally simple, looking more like homemade dinosaur pajamas than realistic dinosaur suits. That playful, tongue-in-cheek style matched DinoLand’s quirky backstory.

  • Chip and Dale stayed true to their personalities while wearing the costumes. Chip was usually the more organized “leader,” while Dale often acted extra goofy, pretending to stomp like a dinosaur or playfully chasing guests.

  • Disney fans were especially fond of their interactions because the pair often played off each other without saying a word, creating hilarious photo opportunities through gestures and improvisation.

  • The dinosaur outfits were retired in early 2026 when the DinoLand U.S.A. area closed to make way for the park’s new expansion, making the Chipmunk-o-Saurus costumes a nostalgic favorite among longtime Disney fans.

Bonus tip: If you ever need to tell Chip and Dale apart, remember:

  • Chip has a small black nose that looks like a chocolate chip and one centered tooth.

  • Dale has a larger red nose, a tuft of hair on his head, and two front teeth.
